Tragic Accident in Jamshedpur Sparks Crackdown on Roadside Parking

Following a fatal accident, the Jharkhand government is intensifying efforts against roadside parking to enhance traffic safety.

Jamshedpur, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : In response to a tragic accident on Marine Drive in Jamshedpur that claimed the lives of four young individuals, the Jharkhand government has launched a statewide campaign against roadside parking. Transport Minister Deepak Biruwa urged residents on Sunday to refrain from parking vehicles on main and auxiliary roads.

Biruwa instructed district commissioners to enlist the help of district transport officers (DTO) and motor vehicle inspectors (MVI) to enforce the new regulations. He emphasized that parking on roads obstructs traffic flow and increases the risk of accidents.

The minister also appealed to garage and washing center operators, as well as young drivers, to avoid using roads as parking spaces. Starting Sunday, authorities will take action against vehicles parked improperly on main and auxiliary roads.

He encouraged the public to report any instances of illegal parking they encounter in their districts. Biruwa assured that he would personally oversee these cases to ensure improvements in road safety.

This initiative follows the incident on September 24, when a car broke down and collided with a stationary truck on Marine Drive, resulting in the deaths of four young passengers. Among the deceased was Trisha Singh, the 18-year-old daughter of Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister, Deepika Pandey Singh.

The accident has raised concerns about heavy vehicles parked on the road and overall traffic safety. Investigations into the incident are underway, with plans to review CCTV footage from the area and collaborate with the transport department if necessary.

In light of these events, the transport department is ramping up efforts to combat unauthorized roadside parking across the state, with campaigns being conducted through DTOs and MVIs in various districts.
