Tragedy revisit: Uphaar Cinema Hall burns again

New Delhi, April 17 : Tragedy revisited the Uphaar Cinema Hall at Green Park after 25 years on Sunday, Delhi Fire Service said. The DFS department received a call at around 4:48 am regarding a fire inside Uphaar Cinema Hall, following which five fire tenders were rushed to the site to douse the blaze. Flames engulfed the Uphaar Cinema Hall following which seats, furniture and rubbish kept inside the hall turned to ashes, said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service. “Fire engulfed chairs, furniture and waste materials on the ground floor and balcony in Uphaar Cinema Hall,” said Garg. A major fire had broken out at the Uphaar cinema during the screening of the Hindi film ‘Border’ on June 13, 1997, claiming 59 lives and injuring more than 100 people. A case was lodged on the direction of the Delhi High Court against the owners. CM RJ
