Kolkata, April 18: Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir approached the Calcutta High Court on Friday. He is demanding an investigation into a video clip released by the TMC. Kabir recently formed his own political party and is contesting in the upcoming assembly elections.
The video shows Kabir conversing with an unidentified individual, discussing a purported deal worth 1,000 crores to sway minority votes in favor of the BJP during the West Bengal assembly elections.
Kabir claims the video is fake and generated using artificial intelligence. He alleges that the TMC deliberately released it to tarnish his reputation ahead of the elections.
In his petition filed before Justice Sougata Bhattacharya’s single-judge bench, Kabir has requested the identification of those responsible for creating and disseminating the video, seeking a fair investigation.
The petition has been accepted and is expected to be heard on April 22.
In a media interaction, Kabir stated, “We will teach these conspirators a lesson and show them the legal consequences of such political plots. Our lawyers have initiated necessary actions in this matter.”
Following the video’s release, Kabir has faced political backlash, as Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM distanced itself from their previously announced alliance with Kabir and his party for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP has dismissed TMC’s allegations, asserting that it has no secret agreement with Kabir. A BJP leader claimed that the party would never align with someone who talks about constructing a Babri Masjid-like structure in Murshidabad’s Beldanga.
