Kolkata, May 12: Kunal Ghosh, a legislator and spokesperson for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), extended his congratulations to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari through a Facebook post on Monday.
Ghosh wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Suvendu Adhikari, the new Chief Minister of Bengal. The TMC has issued a clear statement regarding the voter list, the theft of voting machines, and the counting process. However, this is a new government with a new Chief Minister, so I wish him well. I also extend my best wishes to the new Leader of the Opposition, Shovandev Chattopadhyay, who is a senior and experienced associate of our party’s first MLA, Mamata Banerjee. Congratulations are also in order for Asima Patra, the deputy leader of the TMC.”
In the same post, Ghosh congratulated the opposition’s chief whip, Firhad Hakim.
This development is surprising, as Ghosh has been a vocal critic of Adhikari and has often engaged in verbal battles with him while serving as the opposition leader.
The TMC legislator congratulated senior party leader Shovandev Chattopadhyay on being appointed as the leader of the opposition and Asima Patra as the deputy leader.
Ghosh and Adhikari once worked together. Adhikari joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2020, which widened the rift between them. They have exchanged verbal jabs over various issues since then.
On multiple occasions, Ghosh accused Adhikari of winning the 2021 assembly elections by orchestrating power cuts at counting centers. However, all that is now in the past, as Adhikari currently holds the Chief Minister’s position.
After taking the oath of office as Chief Minister of West Bengal on Monday, Adhikari chaired his first cabinet meeting. During this inaugural meeting of the newly formed West Bengal cabinet, a significant decision was made to allocate land to the Border Security Force within 45 days for erecting barbed wire along the currently unfenced international border with Bangladesh.
