Mumbai, May 15: A thief was apprehended while stealing money from the donation box at the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Dombivli, Mumbai, on Friday morning. Police officials confirmed the incident.
The theft occurred around 6:34 AM and was captured on the temple’s CCTV cameras.
According to reports, the suspect entered the temple pretending to be a devotee. After spending some time inside, he allegedly used a thin wooden stick coated with glue to extract cash from the donation box.
Temple management noticed suspicious activity while reviewing the CCTV footage. Treasurer Chandrashekhar Shinde and a devotee present at the temple quickly apprehended the suspect before he could escape.
The suspect was handed over to the Manpada police station for further investigation and legal action.
Police sources indicated that the thief had already removed a significant amount of money from the donation box when he was caught. Authorities are now interrogating him to determine if he has been involved in similar thefts in the area previously.
The Siddhivinayak Temple in Dombivli MIDC is a major center of faith for local residents, attracting large crowds daily, especially during morning and evening prayers.
Following the incident, local residents praised Chandrashekhar Shinde and Pandurang Ude for their vigilance and bravery in capturing the thief.
However, community members expressed concerns over the rising incidents of theft and break-ins in the area. They urged the police to increase patrols and enhance security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
