The Healing Powers of Ayurveda: Sacred Offerings for Good Health During Navratri

Discover the health benefits of sacred offerings like cloves and jaggery during Navratri, celebrated for their Ayurvedic properties.

New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The festive spirit of Sharadiya Navratri is palpable across New Delhi, with devotees expressing their devotion through special offerings to Goddess Durga. These offerings include cloves, juwar (sorghum) juice, betel leaves, raisins, jaggery, sesame seeds, and cardamom. Not only are these items favored by the goddess, but they also hold significant medicinal value in Ayurveda.

These sacred offerings contribute to health, supporting digestion, boosting immunity, and enhancing both physical and mental well-being. During the hidden Navratri, offering these items can yield both spiritual and physical benefits.

Cloves hold a special place in Ayurveda. They serve as a natural pain reliever, providing relief from toothaches, migraines, and digestive issues. Cloves contain eugenol, which offers antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. They can alleviate coughs and colds while also combating gas and acidity. Chewing cloves freshens breath and enhances immunity.

Juwar juice is revered in Ayurveda, often compared to nectar. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it cleanses the body, helps control blood sugar, and is beneficial for diabetics. It also improves digestion, aids in weight loss, and reduces joint pain and inflammation. Juwar is essential during the Kalash establishment ceremony.

Betel leaves are beneficial for digestion, respiratory health, and oral hygiene. They possess antiseptic properties that combat bacteria and eliminate bad breath. Betel leaves relieve constipation, acidity, and cough. Rich in vitamin C and calcium, they enhance immunity. Devotees often offer betel leaves while worshipping Devi Katyayani. Both the nine forms of Durga and the ten Mahavidyas hold a fondness for this leaf.

Raisins are considered blood purifiers and strength enhancers in Ayurveda. Packed with iron, they combat anemia and boost blood production. Raisins improve digestion, relieve constipation, and promote heart health. Their antioxidants also enhance skin glow and reduce fatigue.

Jaggery is especially dear to Goddess Kali, worshipped on the first day of hidden Navratri. In Ayurveda, it is recognized as one of the best sources of sweetness. Rich in iron, magnesium, and potassium, jaggery prevents anemia and strengthens bones. It aids digestion, relieves constipation, and benefits respiratory issues. Additionally, it helps detoxify the body and alleviates menstrual problems.

Sesame seeds are known for their nutritional benefits and ability to pacify Vata dosha in Ayurveda. High in calcium, they strengthen bones and prevent osteoporosis. Sesame seeds are also good for skin and hair health while boosting immunity. Both black and white sesame seeds are considered beneficial.

Cardamom is known for balancing the three doshas in Ayurveda. It aids digestion, alleviates gas and bloating, and freshens breath. Cardamom clears the respiratory tract and provides relief from coughs. Its antioxidants enhance immunity and support heart health.

Honey, referred to as nectar in Ayurveda, is recognized for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. It balances cough disorders, soothes sore throats, and alleviates cold symptoms. Honey promotes faster wound healing, improves digestion, and boosts immunity. Its properties enhance the effectiveness of other medicines, benefiting heart health, weight control, and skin vitality.
