Patna, February 16: A tender worth ₹43.13 crore has been issued for the construction of the runway at Muzaffarpur Airport. This tender has been released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, stated that the new airport will reduce reliance on Patna and Darbhanga airports, boosting employment and tourism in the region.

The tender includes the construction and strengthening of the runway, taxiway, apron, perimeter road, GSE area, vehicle lanes, emergency access road, RESA, runway basic strip, and other related works to make Muzaffarpur Airport operational for Code 2B category aircraft. This project marks a significant step in connecting Muzaffarpur with major cities across the country.

Chaudhary emphasized that this airport is a major gift from the Narendra Modi government at the center and the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar, benefiting the people of Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts. He noted that a robust infrastructure for road and rail transport has been established in Bihar. After laying down a network of roads in every village and street, the expansion of the expressway network is now underway.

He also mentioned the rapid modernization and expansion of the rail network in Bihar, with over ₹10,000 crore allocated for railway development. Currently, 14 Vande Bharat and 21 Amrit Bharat trains are operational. Recently, the Varanasi-Siliguri bullet train corridor was also approved.

Deputy Chief Minister Chaudhary added that air services in Bihar are expanding quickly. Following the operations of Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga airports, the Purnea Airport has already commenced operations. With the tender for the runway construction at Muzaffarpur Airport now issued, construction work will accelerate, making the dream of flying from Muzaffarpur a reality for its residents.
