Hyderabad, May 20: A special court in Hyderabad has sent a senior official from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to judicial custody for 14 days in a case involving disproportionate assets.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested S.A. Lakshmi Kumar on Tuesday and presented him in court, which subsequently ordered his judicial custody. He has been moved to Chanchalguda Central Jail.
Lakshmi Kumar, serving as General Manager (Engineering) in Project Division-VIII (Red Hills), came under scrutiny after the ACB discovered assets worth over ₹5.88 crore during a search operation.
According to the ACB, he allegedly amassed wealth through corrupt practices and dubious means, exceeding his known sources of income during his tenure. The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On May 1, searches were conducted at his residence and eight other locations linked to relatives, friends, associates, and proxies.
During the searches, authorities uncovered documents related to 18 acres of agricultural land in Nizamabad and Sangareddy, six vacant plots, three flats, and a house in Hyderabad. Additionally, they seized ₹1.10 crore in cash, 2.1 kilograms of gold jewelry, and 9.2 kilograms of silver items. A Maruti Ritz car and a Bajaj motorcycle were also confiscated.
The ACB reported that the documented value of the seized assets amounts to ₹5,88,55,490, although their actual market value could be significantly higher.
The agency noted that investigations into additional assets are ongoing, and the case remains under scrutiny.
During the search operation, multiple ACB teams conducted simultaneous raids at eight locations, including Lakshmi Kumar’s residence in Malkapur, where cash counting and jewelry sealing activities took place.
