Perth, October 16 (Daily Kiran): The Indian cricket team has arrived in Perth ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia, beginning on October 19. Senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and newly appointed ODI captain Shubman Gill landed in Perth on Thursday morning, along with other key squad members.

In addition to the trio, players KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy also reached Perth. Due to a flight delay, the team arrived later than scheduled, accompanied by members of the support staff.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir and other members of the coaching unit departed from Delhi on Wednesday evening and are expected to join the team later in the day.

The first ODI between India and Australia will be played in Perth on October 19, followed by the second match in Adelaide on October 23, and the final ODI in Sydney on October 25. After the ODI series, both teams will play a five-match T20I series starting October 29.

This series holds special significance as it marks the first international appearance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli since India’s Champions Trophy triumph in March. The series also comes amid ongoing speculation about the future of India’s senior players following Shubman Gill’s appointment as ODI captain.

Both Rohit and Kohli have retired from Test and T20 international cricket, but reports suggest they are keen to continue playing ODIs until the 2027 World Cup.

Captain Shubman Gill has voiced strong support for the duo, saying, “The experience and contribution they bring to the team are unmatched. There are very few players in the world with such skill, quality, and leadership.”

During India’s recent Test series win against the West Indies, Gill had hinted that both senior players could remain integral parts of the Indian setup till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
