Tamil Nadus New CM Vijay Announces Free Electricity and Special Task Force

Chennai, May 10: C. Joseph Vijay, the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, made significant announcements immediately after taking office on Sunday. Among his first major decisions is the provision of 200 units of free electricity to residents and the establishment of a ‘Singaporean’ special task force.

During the oath-taking ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Vijay signed crucial government documents in the presence of senior officials and ministers, marking the beginning of the TVK government’s welfare and governance agenda.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Vijay. Thousands of party workers, supporters, and film fans gathered at the stadium, welcoming him with enthusiastic chants. He took the oath of office and secrecy in the name of C. Joseph Vijay.

Vijay assumed office as his party emerged as the largest in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, winning 108 out of 234 seats. Although the party fell short of the majority mark of 118, it received support from Congress.

The alliance also gained backing from CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), boosting its strength to 120 legislators.

The oath-taking ceremony had stringent security measures in place. Only about 6,000 guests were allowed entry through VIP passes. The security arrangements were overseen by Chennai’s police commissioner, supported by five additional commissioners and 12 joint commissioners.

Numerous prominent politicians and film personalities attended the event, including Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, along with Vijay’s parents, relatives, friends, and notable figures from the Tamil film industry.

Alongside Vijay, new ministers N. Anand, Adhav Arjun, Dr. K.G. Arunraj, K.A. Sengottaiyan, P. Venkataramanan, R. Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, Dr. T.K. Prabhu, and S. Kirthan also took their oaths.

This ceremony marked a historic moment in Tamil Nadu’s political history, signaling the start of a new political era under Vijay’s leadership, ending decades of dominance by traditional Dravidian parties.
