Tamil Nadu Government Approves Six Daily Shows for New Tamil Films

The Tamil Nadu government allows six daily shows for new Tamil films in theaters for a week after release, boosting the film industry.

Chennai, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Tamil Nadu government has announced a significant measure to support the film industry. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has authorized all theaters in the state to screen new Tamil films with six daily shows from the release date for one week. These shows will run from 6:00 AM to 2:30 AM the following day.

This decision comes after consultations with various industry organizations, including the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, Tamil Film Producers Association, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association. These groups had requested an increase in the number of shows for new film releases.

Under the current Tamil Nadu Cinema (Regulation) Rules of 1957, theaters are typically allowed to screen four shows daily. However, the state government had already permitted five shows daily for new Tamil films for seven days post-release. Additionally, five shows were also allowed during local festivals, public holidays, and weekends.

Following discussions with industry stakeholders, the Chief Minister approved amendments to the Tamil Nadu Cinema (Regulation) Rules. Now, new Tamil films can be screened for a maximum of six shows daily from 6:00 AM to 2:30 AM for the first week after their release.

In a separate initiative, Chief Minister Vijay has ordered the formation of a high-level committee to enhance security in Tamil Nadu’s prisons. This committee will be chaired by former Director General of Police J.K. Tripathi, IPS (Retd.), and aims to review and improve prison security following a recent incident in which 17 inmates escaped from the Theni district jail.
