New Delhi, April 25: Swati Maliwal, one of the seven Rajya Sabha MPs who left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has opened up about her decision. She cited several reasons for her departure, primarily focusing on alleged corruption, bullying, and dishonesty within the party led by Arvind Kejriwal.
In an interview in New Delhi, Maliwal explained her transition to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “I have left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the BJP. I have worked alongside Arvind Kejriwal since 2006. I sacrificed my home and job, living in slums for seven years to support the party’s movements. However, I was brutally attacked by his associates at my own home. When I tried to file a police report, I was threatened and intimidated. In the last two years, there have been continuous efforts to pressure me into withdrawing my complaint. I was not even given a minute to speak in Parliament,” she stated.
Maliwal accused Kejriwal of being anti-women, claiming he is known for lies, corruption, and intimidation. “After losing the Delhi Assembly elections, he has been controlling the Punjab government remotely, turning it into his personal ATM. Sand mining and drug use are rampant in Punjab, all happening under his watch. He has exploited the hard-earned money of innocent people for his personal pleasures,” she added.
Discussing the situation in Punjab, Maliwal said, “Conditions are dire. If you speak to anyone in Punjab today, you will find that people genuinely despise Arvind Kejriwal. He has undermined the essence of Punjab by placing Delhi’s rejected legislators over the people of Punjab. Was there no Punjabi qualified for any commission?”
She mentioned Vibhav Kumar, the individual who allegedly assaulted her, stating, “The world knows who he is. Arvind Kejriwal has granted him Z-plus security in Punjab and appointed him as the chief advisor to Bhagwant Mann. Recently, Kumar traveled to the Netherlands with Mann, staying in a luxurious room costing one lakh rupees. They are squandering the people’s money for their whims, and the people of Punjab will never forgive them.”
Praising Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Maliwal remarked, “I believe PM Modi is the most popular leader not just in India but globally. Whether it’s Operation Sindoor, eradicating Naxalism, or introducing the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, I am impressed by his work. I am joining the BJP because I genuinely believe in PM Modi’s leadership and want to work under him.”
Despite global turmoil due to conflicts in the Middle East, Maliwal noted that India has remained stable under Modi’s leadership.
Reflecting on her decision to join the BJP, she reiterated that she left AAP due to Kejriwal’s corruption, bullying, and dishonesty. “Kejriwal has completely taken over the party. Two years ago, I could have joined the BJP, but I chose to stay and try to reform my party. However, if no one is willing to listen, how can you move forward together?” she questioned.
Maliwal expressed her disbelief at the transformation of Kejriwal, stating, “For seven years, I lived in slums. It was a complete movement for which I sacrificed everything. Now, we see a person who once wore torn pants and used a cheap pen, now focused on acquiring a large house with a helipad and extravagant luxuries. Our home is a simple one provided by the government, while Kejriwal has immersed himself in opulence.”
She concluded by asserting that many good individuals are leaving the party due to Kejriwal’s corruption and lies. “Thousands of workers have left because of him. Kejriwal taught us to fight against corruption, but he has become embroiled in it himself.”
Maliwal predicts that the Aam Aadmi Party will soon fracture due to Kejriwal’s troubling behavior.
