Prayagraj, February 27: Swami Avimukteshwaranand has filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Allahabad High Court to avoid arrest in a sexual harassment case. The hearing for this petition is scheduled for Friday. If the court denies bail, the police may proceed with his arrest.
According to reports, Justice Jitendra Kumar Sinha will hear the case in a single bench. The anticipatory bail application includes the Uttar Pradesh government and five others as respondents. The case is listed as number 142 in the fresh cause list of High Court number 72. Swami Avimukteshwaranand has submitted the petition through lawyers Rajarshi Gupta, Sudhanshu Kumar, and Shri Prakash. The complainant, Ashutosh Pandey, the two minor victims, the High Court Legal Services Committee, and the Child Welfare Committee are also parties in the case.
It is noteworthy that a sexual harassment case has been registered against Swami Avimukteshwaranand and his disciple at the Jhunsi police station. This case falls under Section 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS)-2023, along with six other sections related to sexual offenses. The complaint was filed by Ashutosh Brahmachari Maharaj from Tulsi Kunj.
The complainant alleges that two minor boys, aged 14 and 17, were repeatedly sexually abused by Swami Avimukteshwaranand and his associates at the ashram for over a year. The matter came to light when the two minor victims approached the complainant during the Magh Mela, revealing their experiences of sexual exploitation and seeking police protection.
In the FIR, the complainant stated, “Both of Avimukteshwaranand’s disciples informed me that they were also sexually abused during the Mahakumbh 2025 and Magh Mela 2026. They were told to consider it as ‘Guru Seva’ and that they would benefit from it in the future.”
Allegations have been made that both minors were forced to sleep naked, either alone or together, in the ashram. They were threatened, and sexual abuse occurred at night. The FIR also claims, “Recently, during the Magh Mela, Swami Avimukteshwaranand sexually abused the minor victims inside a parked car and within a temporary camp.”
