Suvendu Adhikari Credits BJPs Democracy for West Bengal Chief Minister Position

Kolkata, May 9: Suvendu Adhikari has been elected as the leader of the West Bengal BJP legislative party during a recent meeting. Central Home Minister Amit Shah referred to Adhikari as the future Chief Minister of West Bengal. Following his election, Adhikari expressed that this decision reflects the ‘democracy’ within the party, where elected representatives chose their leader.

Speaking to reporters, Adhikari expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Nitin Naveen, and Home Minister Shah for this opportunity. He emphasized that this is the essence of democracy in the BJP, where elected representatives have a voice in leadership selection. He pledged to fulfill the promises made during the elections, working alongside both the party organization and the public.

Adhikari previously defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhawanipur constituency and also secured victory in Nandigram. The BJP achieved a significant majority, winning 208 seats in the state assembly elections.

BJP leaders have expressed their joy over Adhikari’s ascension as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal. BJP leader Locket Chatterjee stated that the dream of bringing ‘change’ to Bengal has finally been realized. He noted that Suvendu and the party workers have faced considerable struggles, with many BJP workers sacrificing their lives. Today, he believes, their souls will find peace.

Chatterjee emphasized that this marks the first time a BJP government will be established in the state. He assured that the party will work alongside the public under the leadership of the new Chief Minister and Bengal BJP President, Samik Bhattacharya. He stated, “Together, we will build ‘Sonar Bangla’.”

He further mentioned that the double-engine government will focus on ensuring safety for women. Newly elected BJP legislator Bankim Chandra Ghosh expressed happiness, stating that all legislators supported Adhikari. He added that the people of Bengal are also very pleased with this development.
