Mumbai, May 21: Actress Sushmita Sen marked a significant milestone on Thursday, celebrating 32 years since she won the historic Miss Universe crown, putting India on the global map. To commemorate this special occasion, she expressed her gratitude to her fans through a heartfelt social media post.
In her Instagram post, Sushmita shared a picture of herself smiling brightly while boarding a flight. She captioned the image, “I am deeply grateful for the smile that has remained on my face for the past 32 years. I feel truly lucky and blessed. This joy is all thanks to you. Happy 32nd anniversary of my Miss Universe win. I love you, Philippines, and the love I received there will always hold a special place in my heart. I love you all dearly.”
Sushmita first gained recognition in the Miss India 1994 pageant, where she competed against strong contenders, including Aishwarya Rai. Sushmita won the Miss India title and went on to represent the country at the Miss Universe competition, while Aishwarya was sent to the Miss World pageant. Remarkably, both beauties secured their respective global titles.
At the Miss Universe competition held in the Philippines, Sushmita outshone contestants from 77 countries to claim the crown. Following her victory, she launched her acting career with Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Dastak.’ However, it was her role in David Dhawan’s comedy ‘Biwi No. 1’ (1999) that brought her significant success, earning her a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She later starred in hit films like ‘Aankhen’ (2002), ‘Main Hoon Na’ (2004), and ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ (2005).
Though Sushmita has appeared in fewer films, her performances have left a lasting impact on audiences whenever she graces the screen.
