New Chandigarh, 11 December. South Africa defeated India by 51 runs in the second T20 match played at the Maharaj Yadavendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullapur. India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, expressed that he and Shubman Gill should have batted more patiently. He also acknowledged that the Indian team needs to learn from South Africa.

After the loss, Suryakumar Yadav said, “South Africa knew from the first innings exactly the length they had to bowl. There was some dew here. If the first plan does not work, we should have adopted the second plan. We need to learn from South Africa.”

In the match, Suryakumar Yadav managed only 5 runs, while Shubman Gill got out on the very first ball to Lungi Ngidi. Abhishek Sharma scored 17 runs off 8 balls, including two sixes.

The Indian captain added, “I think Shubman and I could have given a good start together because we cannot always rely on Abhishek Sharma. He is playing well, but anyone can have a bad day. I, Shubman, and some other batsmen should have taken responsibility to steady the innings. It would have been a smarter chase. I should have taken that responsibility and batted with more depth. But yes, we learn, we try, and we will do better in the next game. We will see what happens in the upcoming match.”

South Africa posted 213 runs for four wickets in their innings. Quinton de Kock scored 90 runs off 46 balls, hitting seven sixes and five fours, while Donovan Ferreira remained unbeaten on 30 runs.

In response, India was all out for 162 runs in 19.1 overs. Tilak Varma scored 62 runs off 34 balls but could not lead the team to victory.
