Suryakumar Yadav Shares Light Moment with Sanju Samson at Thiruvananthapuram Airport

Thiruvananthapuram witnessed a cheerful moment as the Indian cricket team arrived to play the fifth and final T20 match against New Zealand. The match is scheduled for Saturday in the city, and the team was seen enjoying some light-hearted fun at the airport.

Sanju Samson, the captain of the Indian team and a native of Kerala, was greeted with enthusiastic chants as he stepped out of the airport. Walking alongside him was team captain Suryakumar Yadav. A cameraman followed closely to capture their pictures when Yadav jokingly said, “Cheta ko disturb mat karo”, urging Samson to keep moving. Samson, known by the nickname ‘Cheta’ within the team, smiled in response to the playful remark.

In a video shared on the BCCI’s social media handle X, Suryakumar Yadav asked Samson how it felt to be back in his “God’s Own Country.” Samson expressed that it always feels good to return, but this visit holds a special significance.

The video has been widely shared and appreciated on social media platforms.

Sanju Samson has been selected as the wicketkeeper and opening batsman for the T20 World Cup 2026 and the ongoing New Zealand series. He was chosen over Shubman Gill but has struggled to make an impact in the first four matches of the series, scoring 10, 6, 0, and 24 runs respectively.

Despite a promising start in the fourth T20, Samson was unable to convert it into a big innings and help secure a win. His continued poor form has drawn criticism from fans and experts alike.

Thiruvananthapuram is Samson’s home ground, and although he has faced four consecutive failures, the team may give him one last chance in the final match. With India having already secured the series, this opportunity might be crucial for Samson’s place in the playing eleven for the World Cup. If he fails to perform in the fifth T20, his chances of making the World Cup squad could be seriously affected.
