Surjewala slams govt over oil bonds

New Delhi, April 16 : Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on Saturday slammed the government for issuing oil bonds while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her “oil bonds as burden theory”. “The “Oil Bonds as Burden” theory of FM stands exposed,” Surjewala said in a tweet. He said in 2014-2022, Income from Petroleum Products is Rs. 43 Lakh crore. “Year 2015-2022, Modi Govt has paid only Rs 11,500 crore for Oil Bonds,” Surjewala tweeted. “Modi government has itself issued “Bonds” worth Rs 2,79,000 crore,” he said quoting a report. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while replying to a debate on the 2022-23 Budget in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, attributed the fuel price hikes to disruptions in global oil markets over the past couple of weeks to the war in Ukraine, and oil bonds issued by the previous government.
