New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted interim relief to folk singer Neha Singh Rathore in a case related to her alleged controversial social media posts following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The court has stayed her arrest in connection with the incident that took place in April 2025 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where several tourists lost their lives.
Neha Singh Rathore had posted critical remarks about the government and the Prime Minister on social media after the attack. These posts were deemed objectionable, leading to a First Information Report (FIR) filed by complainant Abhay Pratap Singh at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow.
The FIR accuses her of attempting to spread hatred and harm national unity through these posts. Earlier, Neha had filed a anticipatory bail plea in the Allahabad High Court, which was dismissed in December 2025. Following this, she approached the Supreme Court.
During the hearing on her anticipatory bail petition, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant. The court granted interim protection against her arrest but directed her to cooperate fully with the police investigation and appear for questioning on January 19. The court warned that any non-compliance would be viewed seriously.
The Supreme Court further stated that the investigation would continue and Neha Singh Rathore must follow all instructions issued by the authorities.
