Mumbai, May 7: Sunil Kumar Yadav received joyous news during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The captain of India’s T20 team and a star player for the Mumbai Indians, Surya’s wife, Devisha Shetty, gave birth to a baby girl on Thursday. The couple tied the knot in 2016.
The 35-year-old cricketer shared the happy news on Instagram, stating, “We welcome our little angel with laughter, love, and countless dreams.” Surya, recognized as one of India’s top T20 batsmen, led the country to victory in the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
Currently, Yadav is part of the Mumbai Indians, who are striving to secure a playoff spot. However, reports indicate that he did not travel to Raipur with the team earlier this week to be with his family for the birth.
There is uncertainty regarding Yadav’s participation in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 10. As of now, the Mumbai Indians have not made any official announcement regarding his return to the team. In the previous match against Lucknow Super Giants, regular captain Hardik Pandya missed the game due to back spasms, and Surya took over the captaincy.
Under Surya’s leadership, the Mumbai Indians successfully chased down a target of 229 runs, thanks to stellar performances from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.
While Hardik Pandya is recovering from his injury, Surya Yadav is currently focused on family responsibilities. If needed for the match against RCB, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be appointed as the stand-in captain.
