Ahmedabad, March 8: The T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium this Sunday. Ahead of this crucial match, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has raised concerns about the form of opener Abhishek Sharma, suggesting he should be dropped from the playing eleven.
Gavaskar stated, “Abhishek does not seem to be learning from his mistakes. Bowlers are consistently targeting the same area to trap him, but he is unable to adjust his strategy. In a high-stakes match like the final, the team needs to choose stable and reliable options.”
He recommended that Ishan Kishan should open the innings alongside Sanju Samson, replacing Abhishek with Rinku Singh. According to Gavaskar, players like Rinku have the capability to handle pressure in significant matches.
Additionally, Gavaskar advised including Kuldeep Yadav in the playing eleven instead of Varun Chakravarthy. He believes Kuldeep’s spin could be highly effective on the large boundaries and flat pitch of the Narendra Modi Stadium.
