Stuart Broad Calls for Extra Fast Bowler in Englands ODI Squad Ahead of World Cup

Birmingham, July 15: Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has urged the team to include an additional fast bowler to strengthen their bowling lineup ahead of the ODI World Cup. Broad stated that England’s recent loss to India at Edgbaston highlighted the team’s deficiencies.

After the match on Wednesday, Broad remarked, “England is currently ranked eighth in the world and is playing like an eighth-ranked team. They need to bring in more experience and clarity in player roles. Following the defeat at Edgbaston, there may be a shift in thinking towards including another seamer.”

He emphasized the urgency of addressing the lack of fast bowling options, especially with the ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027.

Broad noted, “The next ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Fast bowlers will be crucial there. The team has spinners like Rashid, Dawson, and Will Jacks. Both Bethel and Root can also serve as part-time spin options, so I would prefer to field an extra fast bowler instead of one of the spinners. This would provide that bowler with valuable match experience and exposure.”

The former fast bowler added, “Relying too heavily on Jofra Archer for wickets is not ideal. The bowling attack needs to be balanced to take wickets in the middle overs. Rashid can take wickets, and so can Tong. However, I believe England needs another fast bowler to support that group. The team is currently utilizing Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, or Saqib Mahmood.”
