Strengthening India-Myanmar Relations: EAM Jaishankar Meets President Min Aung Hlaing

New Delhi, May 30: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Myanmar’s President U Min Aung Hlaing on Saturday in New Delhi. President Hlaing is on a five-day visit to India.

Following the meeting, Jaishankar expressed his pleasure on the social media platform X, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet President U Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi today. I appreciate his positive sentiment towards deepening our long-standing cooperation.”

He added, “I look forward to his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advance our partnership for peace, progress, and prosperity.”

President U Min Aung Hlaing arrived in the national capital from Bodh Gaya, where he was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India shared on X, “President U Min Aung Hlaing received a warm welcome upon his arrival in New Delhi from Bodh Gaya. Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh greeted him. This visit provides an opportunity to further strengthen our bilateral partnership.”

Kirti Vardhan Singh expressed pride in welcoming President Min Aung Hlaing to Delhi. He noted that the visit highlights the enduring civilizational, cultural, and people-to-people ties between India and Myanmar. It also offers a chance to enhance our partnership across various sectors and advance our shared vision for peace, prosperity, and connectivity in the region.

During his visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing will discuss ways to strengthen relations between the two countries with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1.

This marks President U Min Aung Hlaing’s first visit to India since taking office. He is also set to participate in a business forum. Accompanying him is a high-level delegation, including several cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. On June 2, President U Min Aung Hlaing will visit Mumbai for discussions and site visits related to business and industry.
