Stormy Rain Likely in West Bengal, Yellow Alert Issued

Kolkata, 19 August (Kiran News). Due to the deep low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal, many parts of West Bengal are likely to experience rain and storms over the next few days. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain and strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in several districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, till Friday.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, rain and gusty winds are expected in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, and Bankura districts.

On Thursday, heavy rainfall is possible in South 24 Parganas. On Friday, heavy rain is likely in East Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas, and East Medinipur districts.

In North Bengal, rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Tuesday in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. Rainfall intensity will increase in North Bengal from Wednesday onwards. On Thursday and Friday, heavy rain is expected in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar. The intensity of rain is likely to decrease on Saturday and Sunday.

Due to rough sea conditions, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the North Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of West Bengal till 22 August.

In Kolkata, light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Monday, the city’s maximum temperature was recorded at 32°C and the minimum at 26.4°C. Humidity ranged between 69 and 95 percent.

In the next 24 hours, the temperature in the city is expected to remain between 27°C and 31°C.
