Indore, May 20: Rakesh Khadse, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, stated on Wednesday that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the startup ecosystem has expanded to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, with the number of startups in the country exceeding 200,000.
During a conversation with a news agency on the sidelines of the BRICS Youth Entrepreneurship Working Group Meeting 2026, Khadse emphasized that in line with PM Modi’s vision, the central government has implemented several decisions regarding startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This has led to the development of a comprehensive startup ecosystem, allowing startups to emerge beyond major cities and into Tier-2 and Tier-3 locations.
He further explained that during the last conference, an agreement was reached to share India’s startup ecosystem experiences with all BRICS nations. This initiative has led to the organization of the BRICS Youth Entrepreneurship Working Group Meeting 2026, which will benefit all participating countries.
Khadse mentioned that this is a two-day meeting that commenced today, with participants from several nations. Due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, some individuals are unable to attend in person and will join virtually.
Last week, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting, highlighting the organization’s 20-year journey, achievements, and future direction. He stated that the session, themed “BRICS-20: Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” has brought together BRICS member countries along with partner nations.
Jaishankar noted that reflecting on the past 20 years, discussions are underway regarding the nature of collaboration and its future direction. The presence of partner countries has strengthened collective efforts and deepened mutual engagement. By leveraging their collective strength, BRICS can become more robust, agile, and adaptable to changing circumstances.
He added that over time, both the scope and significance of BRICS have increased. This reflects the aspirations of emerging economies and developing nations for a more balanced and inclusive international order. In response to changing global conditions, BRICS has expanded both its agenda and membership, while consistently focusing on human development and practical cooperation.
