Stalin receives last batch of TN students from Ukraine, thanks EAM for evacuation

Chennai, Mar 12 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin today personally received the last batch of nine medical students from the State, who were evacuated from the war-torn Ukraine and thanked External Affairs Minister Dr S.Jaishankar for the safe repatriation of the students. Mr Stalin visited the airport and received the last batch of nine students who arrived from New Delhi after they were evacuated from Ukraine. The Chief Minister, along with this cabinet colleagues, gave a bouquet of flowers to the students and enquired about their well being. The students profusely thanked the Chief Minister for initiating steps for their safe evacuation from Ukraine. Meanwhile, an official release here said Stalin spoke to Dr Jaishankar over the phone and thanked him for safely evacuating all Indian students, including those from Tamil Nadu from Ukraine. After receiving the last batch of students evacuated from Ukraine at the Chennai Airport today morning, he thanked Mr. Jaishankar and the on government for taking measures to evacuate the students from Tamil Nadu, the release said. Another release said due to the swift action taken by the Chief Minister, 1,890 of the 1,921 medical students were evacuated from Ukraine safely. Of them 1,524 students were brought to the State and sent to their respective homes at the state government’s expense. The remaining 366 students have returned at their own cost. However, 31 students have refused to return home and decided to stay back in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. GV 1502
