Sri Lanka’s peace, prosperity, stability in India’s interest: Shringla

Kolkata, April 18 : Iterating that New Delhi would do whatever it can to help economic crisis-hit Sri Lanka, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Monday said it was in India’s interest that peace, stability and prosperity remain in the island nation. “Peace, stability and prosperity of Sri Lanka are in our direct interest, and we will do whatever we can to promote that”, Shringla said while addressing an e-session organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce. Shringla stated that Sri Lanka is an immediate neighbour and has a strong impact on the Indian economy. He further added that Sri Lanka, at present, is going through a situation of economic difficulty caused by the pandemic and keeping in mind the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’, India has extended assistance to it. Similarly, the crisis arising from the Russia-Ukraine situation is expected to cause a further rise in oil prices and thereafter inflation. Given the global economy is highly integrated, this is something that India has to deal with, he added. BM SSP ARN
