Beijing, February 1 – The 2026 Spring Festival travel season, also known as Chunyun, will start from February 2 and continue until March 13, lasting for 40 days. This period marks the beginning of a heartfelt travel season as millions return home to reunite with family and friends.
This year’s Spring Festival travel includes an “extra-long” nine-day holiday, significantly boosting travel demand. The total number of inter-regional travellers is expected to reach a record 9.5 billion during this period.
Self-driving will remain the primary mode of transportation, accounting for approximately 80% of all travel. Passenger volumes for railways and civil aviation are projected to reach 540 million and 95 million respectively.
