Jammu, May 6: Former DGP SP Vaid has welcomed the recent power shift in West Bengal, describing it as a victory for the people’s decision. In an interview with a news agency, he first congratulated the citizens of West Bengal for their choice to change the government.
Vaid expressed hope that the new government would be formed by May 9, emphasizing that improving law and order should be the top priority. He noted that the law and order situation in West Bengal has been severely weak for a long time, and urgent measures are required to rectify this.
He raised serious concerns about the rising crime rates in the state, which have created an atmosphere of insecurity among the public. Vaid pointed out that the lack of stringent action in many cases has emboldened criminals. He advocated for swift justice through fast-track courts to ensure that offenders receive timely punishment and that fear of the law is reinstated.
Vaid also highlighted the issue of illegal immigration, stating that identifying and deporting illegal immigrants is crucial, as they pose a security threat. He stressed that such activities are unacceptable for the country and require strict action.
Additionally, he expressed concern over the state’s economic situation, urging efforts to bring back industries that have left West Bengal. This, he argued, would not only strengthen the state’s economy but also create job opportunities for the youth.
Recalling Kolkata’s former glory, Vaid noted that the city was once among the most prosperous regions in the country, and there is a need to regain that status. Effective implementation of central government schemes is essential to accelerate development and provide new direction to the state.
Responding to questions about the electoral process, Vaid stated that if elections were not fair, how could different parties form governments in other states? He cited examples from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where various political parties received mandates, demonstrating that the electoral process was free and fair. He praised the Election Commission for the excellent arrangements seen in West Bengal, noting that the entire process was conducted transparently.
