Lucknow: Former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s recent statement has sparked significant political debate across the country. In an interview, Ansari remarked that the foreign invaders and looters mentioned in history books were actually Indians.
Responding to this, Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Ravidas Mehrotra expressed his views on the matter. He said that only historians can provide the correct guidance regarding historical facts.
In a conversation with a news agency, Ravidas Mehrotra stated that if anyone holds a different opinion or suggests changes related to historical facts, it is historians who should lead the discussion. He added that the general understanding among Indians is that foreign forces invaded India and looted the country.
Addressing a question on the current political and administrative scenario in Uttar Pradesh, Ravidas Mehrotra criticised the BJP government. He alleged that the condition of roads across the state is poor, people lack access to clean drinking water, and most developmental works have come to a halt. He pointed out widespread public dissatisfaction, which has led BJP ministers and MLAs to avoid facing the people.
The SP legislator further claimed that instead of addressing public issues, BJP ministers and MLAs are busy fighting among themselves and misleading the people. According to him, this situation clearly reflects strong anger not only among the public but also within the BJP lawmakers. He said that while some public groups are confronting MLAs, some MLAs themselves are opposing ministers.
Ravidas Mehrotra questioned the governance system in the state, saying it appears as if there is no solid government administration in Uttar Pradesh. He accused the government of misusing budget funds and said no concrete work is visible at the grassroots level.
