Sonu Sood Questions Safety Measures Following Cruise Tragedy in Madhya Pradesh

Mumbai, May 1: Renowned Hindi film actor Sonu Sood, often referred to as the ‘messiah of the needy’ for his philanthropic efforts, has expressed deep concern following a recent cruise accident in Madhya Pradesh. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sood has been actively helping the underprivileged. The recent incident has left him disheartened, prompting him to raise serious questions about the administration’s safety protocols. He lamented, “How long will people have to lose their lives due to these systemic failures?”

The tragic capsizing of a cruise boat in the Narmada River near Bargi Dam has troubled Sood. He had previously raised awareness about the necessity of life jackets following similar boat accidents in Bihar and Vrindavan. However, the recurrence of such incidents has left him frustrated.

On social media platform X, he stated, “Not long ago, I posted about the boat accident in Bihar and urged for life jackets to be mandatory for every passenger. Then came the incident in Vrindavan… and now in Madhya Pradesh, where many more lives have been lost. How many more lives will be taken?”

Sood further emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying, “It is time to make life jackets mandatory. No boat should set sail without every passenger wearing one. We also need a government portal where time-stamped proof of all passengers wearing life jackets can be uploaded before each journey. Only strict accountability can save lives.”

Last Thursday, the capsizing of the cruise boat in the Narmada River resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, with search operations ongoing for more than ten others who are still missing. Some passengers managed to save themselves by swimming to safety.

Previously, Sood had expressed his sorrow over the incident in Mathura and advocated for mandatory life jackets. He believes the government should launch a portal to regulate this safety measure. He remarked, “Our country has witnessed repeated boat accidents. Lives were lost again in Mathura. In the past year alone, dozens of innocent people have died in similar incidents, most of which could have been prevented had they worn life jackets. Why can’t we establish this as a simple rule?”
