Mumbai, September 3: The timeless songs of Mohammad Rafi continue to hold a special place in the hearts of fans. Recently, a memorable moment unfolded in Mumbai as renowned singer Sonu Nigam, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and music composer Salim Merchant visited Rafi’s former residence, ‘Rafi Mansion.’ Together, they reminisced about the legendary singer’s life and legacy.
Sonu Nigam, a long-time admirer of Rafi’s artistry, played the harmonium and sang the iconic song “Deewana Hua Baadal.” This classic track, featured in the 1964 film “Kashmir Ki Kali,” was originally sung by Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhosle, with music composed by O.P. Nayyar.
As Nigam performed, Sachin Tendulkar stood nearby, listening intently. Salim Merchant was also present to witness this special occasion. Sonu shared a video of the moment on Instagram, describing the visit as a unique musical journey at Rafi Mansion.
During their time there, the trio met with Mohammad Rafi’s son, Shahid Rafi, who is dedicated to preserving his father’s musical heritage for future generations. As the youngest of Rafi’s seven children, Shahid is also a singer and frequently shares stories about his father’s life and work.
A portion of ‘Rafi Mansion’ has been preserved as a museum, showcasing Rafi’s musical instruments, awards, photographs, and personal belongings. This includes not only his musical artifacts but also everyday items from his life.
Among the museum’s treasures are Rafi’s harmonium and tanpura, along with his crockery, vintage photographs, and even his old landline telephone. Fans can catch glimpses of his daily life through these cherished items, including the glass he used for his favorite cold drink.
Mohammad Rafi passed away on July 31, 1980, but his legacy continues to inspire and resonate with music lovers.
