Bhopal, May 7: The ‘Somnath Swabhiman Yatra 2026’ commenced from Bhopal on Thursday. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav flagged off this special pilgrimage from Rani Kamalapati Railway Station. The atmosphere at the station was filled with excitement among the devotees. Women joyfully sang bhajans and danced as they boarded the train, showcasing a vibrant display of religious faith.
This journey is not merely a religious tour; it represents a significant initiative connected to faith, cultural heritage, and Indian traditions. For the first time, a special pilgrimage has been initiated via rail from Madhya Pradesh, attracting a large number of devotees from various regions of the state.
During the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized that the government is continuously working to promote religious tourism. He mentioned that helicopter services had been introduced earlier, and now train travel is being made easier for pilgrims, allowing more people to reach religious sites conveniently.
The Chief Minister described the Somnath Temple as a symbol of Sanatan culture, national pride, and spiritual consciousness. He stated that the temple is not just a place of worship but also a representation of the struggles and renaissance of Indian civilization. He recalled the brutal attack on the Somnath Temple by Mahmud of Ghazni a thousand years ago, noting that it remains a center of faith for millions across the country today.
He also highlighted that the development of religious and cultural sites is driven by Prime Minister Modi’s vision. Under Modi’s leadership, India is advancing on a model of “development with heritage,” where economic growth and cultural revival go hand in hand.
Devotees present at the station expressed considerable enthusiasm for the journey. Women, in particular, expressed gratitude towards the government. Many stated that this was their first opportunity to travel to Somnath in such an organized manner. They noted that the government prioritizes women, which has enabled them to benefit from this convenient journey.
During the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also expressed sorrow over the recent incident involving the shooting of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s PA in West Bengal. He condemned the act, stating, “This is extremely reprehensible. I believe that winning and losing elections is part of democracy, but resorting to violence after losing an election has led the public to stay home. I firmly believe that there is no place for violence in politics. I condemn any party member involved in this and urge them to publicly apologize.”
