Small Changes Can Strengthen Mental Health, Experts Suggest Simple Solutions

New Delhi, May 5: The fast-paced and irregular routines of today negatively impact not just the body but also the mind. As a result, stress, irritability, anger over trivial matters, mood swings, insomnia, restlessness, loneliness, and despair have become common issues. Experts suggest that small changes in daily habits can significantly enhance mental health.

According to specialists from the National Health Mission (NHM), incorporating these habits into daily life can lead to gradual positive changes. Even within a busy schedule, it is possible to carve out 30-40 minutes for oneself. Mental health is not a major problem; rather, it is the result of small, positive habits. By maintaining a work-life balance, focusing on self-care, spending time with family, and engaging in regular exercise or yoga, individuals can not only strengthen their mental health but also improve their overall quality of life.

The NHM states that adopting small positive changes in daily life can easily enhance mental balance, self-confidence, and emotional resilience. Psychologist Dr. Garima Singh offers essential tips for maintaining strong mental health.

Dr. Garima explains that in today’s hectic life, people often become one-dimensional. During adolescence, children focus solely on studies. In their quest to build a career, they forget to spend time on sports, games, or with friends. Similarly, adults become so engrossed in their professional responsibilities that they neglect family and personal life. The solution to this issue is to establish a work-life balance. During adolescence, it is crucial to allocate time for studies as well as sports, hobbies, and social activities.

For adults, balancing work or business with family, health, and personal time is essential. For instance, if one works from 9 AM to 5 PM, it is important to leave office worries behind and spend quality time with family after returning home.

Another vital method for improving mental health is self-care. Dedicate some time each day for personal interests. This could include hobbies such as reading, listening to music, painting, or gardening. Spending time with family members also enhances happiness. Maintaining physical health is equally important for mental well-being. Regular exercise, yoga, or meditation can be beneficial. These small habits reduce stress, boost energy, and keep the mind calm.
