SKM starts ‘MSP Guarantee Week’, to launch nationwide agitation

New Delhi, April 11 : Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Monday said farmers have started preparation for launching a nationwide agitation for MSP, as they started their ‘MSP guarantee week’ which will be observed across the nation from April 11-17, with protests, demonstrations, meetings, and seminars being held across the country. A statement by the SKM said with the beginning of the ‘MSP Guarantee Week’, farmers have started preparation for launching a nationwide agitation for MSP. “Programs in support of MSP Guarantee Week were observed in several states. In Punjab, memorandum to the Prime Minister for the legal guarantee of MSP was submitted to DM and SDM in Mohali, Ferozepur, Fazilka, and Gurdaspur,” the SKM said. A Jal Satyagraha for MSP was started from Bichiya River, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. The week-long program will go through different villages of Madhya Pradesh, and will culminate with a Kisan Mahapanchayat on April 17th at Teonthar, MP. In several districts of Madhya Pradesh including Indore, farmers submitted memorandum to ensure procurement at MSP. In Thol, Kurukshetra, a dharna was held at the grain market. In Pune, a seminar was held for the demand for legal guarantee of MSP. In Mysore, another seminar will be held tomorrow. Beginning tomorrow, a two-day seminar for the demand of MSP will also be held in Patna. “More protests, demonstrations, seminars were held in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and are planned in the following days,” the SKM said. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on Monday announced that a nation wide agitation will be launched soon for guarantee on Minimum Support Price. Tikait was speaking at a protest called by Telangana Chief Minister KC Rao against center’s paddy procurement policy. AO SHK2015
