Dharamshala, May 17: Shreyas Iyer has added another significant record to his name as a captain. On Sunday, during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the HPCA Stadium, Iyer played his 100th IPL match as captain, becoming the fifth player in history to reach this milestone.
The 31-year-old has led Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings in the IPL. Throughout his captaincy, Iyer has recorded 54 wins and faced 40 losses, with 2 matches ending in a tie and 3 being abandoned.
Iyer first took charge of Delhi Capitals in 2018, leading the franchise to its first IPL final in 2020 after captaining in 41 matches. He then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders, where he captained the team in 29 matches from 2022 to 2024, culminating in an IPL title victory in 2024, ending the franchise’s long wait for a trophy.
In his new journey with Punjab Kings, the team also reached the IPL 2025 final. Notably, Iyer is the only captain in IPL history to have led three different teams to the tournament finals.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni holds the record for the most IPL matches as captain, with 235 matches and 136 wins, alongside 97 losses. Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to five IPL championships and also captained Rising Pune Supergiant.
