Guwahati, May 1: In a tragic incident in Assam’s Cachar district, a seven-month pregnant woman was allegedly murdered by her husband. The event has sparked outrage in the community, leading to the husband’s arrest by local police.
The victim has been identified as Rabiya Begum. The incident occurred in the Madhurbond area, where her husband, Biru Mia, reportedly assaulted her, resulting in her death.
Police officials stated on Friday that the suspect was apprehended following a complaint from the victim’s family, and a thorough investigation is underway.
According to family members, Rabiya Begum married Biru Mia approximately six years ago. The couple has two children, aged five and three.
Relatives have alleged that Rabiya faced continuous physical and mental abuse since their marriage. They also claimed that the situation worsened after Biru developed an illicit relationship with another woman and subsequently married her. This led to frequent assaults and severe mistreatment of Rabiya.
Family members recounted instances where Biru threw hot food at Rabiya during arguments.
On the day of the incident, the accused called Rabiya’s family, claiming her condition was critical and urged them to rush to the hospital. Upon arrival, the family noticed multiple injuries on Rabiya’s body and suspected strangulation.
Some neighbors informed the family that before losing consciousness, Biru had kicked Rabiya in the stomach.
Following the complaint, police registered a case, took the suspect into custody, and later formally arrested him.
This shocking event has led to significant anger in the area. Local residents are demanding severe punishment for the accused and justice for the victim.
