Saharanpur, May 1: In a disturbing case from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of two bodies discovered near the village of Naogaon. The remains of a woman named Rakhi were found wrapped in a sack in a canal on April 27. Alongside the body, authorities recovered a plastic bag and rope, suggesting that the victim was murdered before being disposed of in a remote area to avoid detection.
Investigators believe the assailants meticulously planned the crime, selecting a secluded location to discard the body in the evening when there was minimal traffic. During the investigation, police uncovered crucial evidence at the scene, indicating a premeditated act. They are now working to connect the recovered materials to the suspects while maintaining a low profile with the media.
Rakhi Kashyap, who was set to marry Vikrant, a city mission manager from Prayagraj, was reported missing on April 23. Police had previously summoned her for questioning but were unable to extract any information. After the interrogation, Rakhi was released, but she was known to carry a licensed pistol, which police confiscated during the questioning.
Vikrant, who had been stationed in Bagpat since April 2018, last reported to work on April 15. He did not show up the following day, prompting his colleagues to contact him, only to find his phone switched off. His wife, Prachi, filed a missing person report on April 23.
As the investigation progressed, it emerged that Vikrant and Rakhi had been involved in a romantic relationship, frequently communicating over the phone. After questioning Rakhi, police released her, but she too went missing shortly after.
A lead emerged when it was discovered that Vikrant’s car had caught fire days prior to his disappearance. Additionally, he withdrew four lakh rupees from his bank account shortly before going missing, raising questions about the purpose of the transaction.
Rakhi, originally from Rajpur Khampur, had been married twice before and had ongoing disputes with several individuals, leading to multiple legal cases against her. Just fifteen days prior to her death, she had a confrontation with a young man in the courthouse.
Vikrant’s wife, Prachi, works in the irrigation and water resources department in Noida and was at work on the day he went missing. The shocking news of Vikrant’s murder left his colleagues in disbelief.
Reports indicate that a party was held at Rakhi’s residence shortly before the incident, attended by Vikrant, Rakhi, and a local BJP leader. Rakhi later called the police control room claiming that her husband had shot himself, but she abruptly disconnected the call. When contacted by police, she downplayed the situation, attributing it to a family dispute.
In a significant development, Saharanpur police have arrested the main suspect in this double murder case, BJP leader Sudharas Chauhan. He was taken into custody from his home, with CCTV footage capturing his arrest. Authorities had been actively searching for Chauhan, who is believed to be the primary perpetrator of the crime. Police are currently interrogating him to uncover all aspects of this heinous act.
