Kolkata, July 22: A tragic incident unfolded in the New Town area of Kolkata, West Bengal, on Tuesday. A father and son were brutally murdered with sharp weapons in what is suspected to be a land dispute. The mother was severely injured and is currently fighting for her life in the hospital.
Initial investigations suggest that the double murder stemmed from a long-standing land conflict involving the Mistry family. The Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate has detained several individuals for questioning.
The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Mujafar Mistry, also known as Mona, and his 26-year-old son, Bapi Mistry.
According to police reports, the Mistry family had been embroiled in a dispute over a piece of land in the Patharghata area of New Town. Allegations indicate that members of the opposing party were attempting to construct on the disputed land, which the Mistry family opposed.
On Tuesday, it is reported that several individuals from the opposing side attacked Mujafar Mistry with sharp weapons. The assailants brutally assaulted him, and during the attack, both his son and wife were also targeted. All three fell to the ground, severely injured and bleeding.
They were rushed to Bidhannagar Sub-District Hospital, where doctors pronounced Mujafar and Bapi dead on arrival. Meanwhile, the condition of their wife remains critical, and she is receiving ongoing treatment.
Upon receiving news of the incident, officials from the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate arrived at the scene. Senior police officers also inspected the site. The police have begun questioning several detained individuals.
Tension has escalated in the area following the incident, prompting a significant police presence to prevent any further unrest. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and the investigation is ongoing.
A senior officer from Bidhannagar Police stated, “The father and son died from sharp weapon injuries. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The mother is in critical condition and receiving treatment. A case has been registered against the accused, and several individuals are being questioned. Initial investigations indicate that the matter appears to be related to a land dispute between two parties.”
