Pune, April 26: In a bizarre incident that unfolded in the bustling city of Pune, a public transport bus was stolen on Friday. This shocking event disrupted traffic and raised alarms among citizens, but police swiftly apprehended the suspect.
According to reports, around 2:30 PM, a bus on the PMC-Wagholi route was parked at the depot. The driver left the keys inside the bus as he was assigned to another vehicle and walked away. Seizing the opportunity, an unidentified individual entered the bus and drove off.
What followed was a thrilling chase. The thief maneuvered the bus through the Deccan area, reaching Nataraj Bridge, and then began driving against traffic towards Good Luck Chowk. Drivers and pedestrians were startled by the oncoming bus, creating chaos in the area.
Eventually, the bus lost control and collided with a divider. Bystanders quickly alerted the police, who acted promptly to detain the driver.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishikesh Rawle provided details about the incident, stating that the driver had left the keys inside, allowing the suspect to steal the bus. The thief drove against traffic from Nataraj Bridge to Good Luck Café, causing significant disruptions before crashing into the divider. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Rawle noted that the suspect’s driving style did not appear to indicate a mental imbalance, but a medical examination will be conducted. The Deccan police station is currently processing the case.
