Pune, May 7: A shocking incident has emerged from the Chandan Nagar area of Pune. A young man attempted to murder his girlfriend by slashing her throat with a sharp weapon following a dispute over their relationship. The seriously injured woman has been battling for her life in the ICU for the past nine days. The police have arrested the accused in this case.
The incident occurred in the Patharevasti area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chandan Nagar police station. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Ujaladevi Jaswant Singh Dohare, originally from Uttar Pradesh. She was living in Chandan Nagar with her brother.
After the life-threatening attack, her brother, Bhagat Singh Jaswant Singh Dohare, filed a complaint at the Chandan Nagar police station. The police registered a case against the accused, Dilip Rathod, under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and took him into custody.
According to the police, the accused and the victim previously worked together at the same mall, where they first met and gradually developed a romantic relationship. However, they had been experiencing ongoing disputes in recent days, leading to frequent arguments.
On the day of the incident, the woman was home alone as her brother and sister-in-law were at work. During this time, the accused allegedly came to her house. After a heated argument, he attacked her with a sharp weapon, slashing her throat.
After the attack, the accused fled the scene. Despite her severe injuries, the woman managed to send a message to her brother, stating, “He has killed me… come home quickly…” She then made a video call to him. Shocked to see his sister covered in blood during the call, her brother rushed home, arriving within 10 to 12 minutes.
With the help of relatives and local residents, the victim was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kharadi, where she has been receiving treatment in the ICU for the past nine days. Doctors have reported that her condition remains critical.
Following the incident, police officers visited the hospital to record the victim’s statement. However, due to her severe throat injury, she was unable to speak. She requested a pen and paper to write down the name of the accused, Dilip Rathod, for identification.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s brother revealed that she was already engaged to someone else. He alleged that the accused wanted to marry her. He further stated that he was unaware of this relationship until after the incident.
Given the seriousness of the case, senior officials from the Pune police visited the crime scene and initiated an investigation. The accused is currently in police custody, and further inquiries are ongoing.
