Patna, May 2: A shocking incident occurred early Saturday morning in the Lalbagh area of the Pirbahor police station, where criminals broke into a home and attacked a couple, sparking widespread outrage in central Patna.
In this brutal attack, 30-year-old Mohammad Nawaz lost his life, while his wife, Nazia Parveen, sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and remains in critical condition.
The assailants fled the scene immediately after committing the crime. This horrific event has ignited anger among local residents.
On Saturday evening, hundreds of residents protested on Ashok Rajpath, placing the victim’s body in the street and setting objects on fire. The demonstration severely disrupted traffic in the area.
Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers and called for them to face severe punishment. They also urged Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to ensure justice for the victim’s family.
Local residents expressed their frustration over the police response, claiming that no senior officer arrived at the scene despite the gravity of the incident.
One protester stated that the victim’s family deserves justice, noting that his wife is fighting for her life at Patna Medical College and Hospital and should receive proper medical care, alongside the arrest and punishment of the attackers.
The attack took place in Lalbagh, located along Ashok Rajpath. According to an officer from the Pirbahor police station, Mohammad Nawaz was a tenant living on the third floor of Sarfaraz Alam’s house.
The attackers ascended to the third floor and assaulted him with a knife in his room. Nawaz worked as a salesman in a mall in Patna.
The victim’s older brother alleged that this crime may be linked to previous harassment incidents. He claimed that a young man had been troubling a girl from their family on her way to school.
The brother also alleged that just a day before the incident, the assailant threw stones at their house. They confronted him and attempted to reason with him, but he committed this murder afterward.
Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. Shortly thereafter, a large crowd gathered and took the body to Ashok Rajpath, where they blocked the road, demanding swift police action.
