Shobha De Analyzes Mamata Banerjees Defeat in West Bengal Elections

Mumbai, May 5: The recent election results in West Bengal have marked a significant turning point in the country’s political landscape. The Indian National Congress’s resounding victory has sparked fresh discussions in political circles. Notably, renowned author and former model Shobha De shared her insights on this historic win through a video posted on Instagram, describing the moment as a “historic occasion” and addressing the reasons behind Mamata Banerjee’s defeat.

In her video, Shobha De began by stating, “Today, the City of Joy is filled with happiness, and that’s only natural. I wasn’t feeling well, but I couldn’t let this historic moment pass by. So, I prepared myself to celebrate this significant victory with the people of Kolkata.”

Shobha De clarified that she did not wish to delve deeply into the political aspects of the issue but raised the question of why Mamata Banerjee lost. She stated, “We won’t go too deep into the politics, but the question remains: why did Mamata lose? I believe the answer is quite clear. Women in West Bengal have ousted a female leader from power. What mistakes did Mamata make? She never showed empathy, solidarity, or sensitivity towards the women of Bengal, which was expected of her, and that ultimately worked against her. The impact is evident in the election results.”

She further emphasized, “This defeat is not just a loss for a political party; it is also a personal defeat for Mamata Banerjee. This is a significant blow for her. No leader has likely felt such a loss. At this moment, we should not discuss revenge or retribution.”

Shobha De referenced Prime Minister Modi’s statement, where he remarked, “The lotus is now blooming in West Bengal, and it should be allowed to flourish.”

She concluded, “These election results signal a change, and the public has clearly voted for transformation. The people of the state have long been troubled by issues like corruption, poor infrastructure, and suppression of their voices, and now they have made their decision against all of this.”

Reflecting on Mamata Banerjee’s long tenure, she noted, “Mamata has held power in the state for nearly 15 years, but now it is time for her to hand it over to someone else and observe how the BJP operates in the state. The entire nation will be watching.”

Meanwhile, congratulations are in order for the people of West Bengal, who voted in such large numbers. The figure of 206 seats speaks volumes—it reflects their aspirations and hopes. There is now hope that West Bengal will regain its former identity and glory, which has gradually diminished.

She congratulated the people of West Bengal for this significant mandate, stating, “The figure of 206 seats says a lot. It shows what the people want and their expectations. West Bengal will once again reclaim its old identity and pride. The state has faced numerous challenges in recent years, but now is the time to move forward and bring joy back to the City of Joy.”
