New Delhi, March 9: In the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, a crucial performance by an Indian batsman helped secure victory against South Africa. Shivam Dube played a vital role, scoring 27 runs off 16 balls in the final overs. His contribution proved to be a game-changer, leading Team India to a narrow 7-run win and crowning them champions.
Two years later, during the T20 World Cup 2026, Dube continued to shine in every significant match, demonstrating his skills with both bat and ball. Despite not receiving much attention after India’s consecutive T20 World Championship win, his contributions remained critical. In the semi-final against England, Dube scored a powerful 43 runs off 25 balls while batting at number 4, which turned out to be the match’s pivotal moment. His performance helped India reach a total of 253 runs, ultimately leading to a 7-run victory over England.
In the final against New Zealand, after the dismissal of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya also returned to the pavilion. The Indian team needed a strong finish, and Dube stepped up, scoring an unbeaten 26 runs off just 8 balls, helping India achieve a total of 255 runs with 5 wickets lost.
During the Super-8 round, when other Indian batsmen faltered against South Africa, Dube stood firm, scoring 42 runs and ensuring the team crossed the 100-run mark. Following a disappointing performance from the top order against the Netherlands, it was Dube who salvaged the innings with a commanding 66 runs, leading India to a total of 193 runs.
Throughout the tournament, Dube played 9 matches, scoring 235 runs at an impressive strike rate of 169 and taking 5 wickets. His consistent performances have established him as a silent yet impactful match-winner for Team India.
