Mumbai, May 12: Shiv Sena (UBT) issued a warning on Tuesday regarding the recent historic power shift in Tamil Nadu, where CM Vijay’s party, TVK, emerged victorious. This win disrupted the previous dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
In an editorial published in the party’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana’, the Uddhav Thackeray faction noted that while celebrations are underway in the state, the path ahead is fraught with challenges. The editorial highlighted that Vijay’s government holds a slim majority, making stability a significant concern, especially given the central influence of leaders like Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah in Delhi. The new Chief Minister, a Christian, has vowed to be a leader for all religions and emphasized that ensuring the safety of every citizen is his primary duty.
As Vijay transitions from the silver screen to the secretariat, the nation is eager to see if he can maintain his ‘common man’ image while navigating the complexities of governance, as noted in ‘Saamana’.
The editorial also remarked on the clear display of nationalism during the swearing-in ceremony, which began with ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’, and concluded with the Tamil Nadu state song. This sequence appeared to prioritize national sentiment.
Furthermore, it stated that Vijay has touched the hearts of the people, declaring the eight crore citizens of Tamil Nadu as his family. He emphasized his simplicity, asserting that he is neither a prince nor a deity, but an ordinary man.
The Chief Minister has issued a stern warning to his cabinet and legislators against the misuse of public funds. To combat the rising drug addiction among youth, he has ordered the formation of a special task force to dismantle drug networks.
Additionally, the establishment of a dedicated women’s safety wing within the police department has been approved. Acknowledging the state’s debt of 10 lakh crore rupees, Vijay has called for strict financial discipline.
Notably, he has signed his first official file granting 200 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena claims that the formation of the new government has stirred the national political landscape. The Congress party aided Vijay in forming the government, which reportedly angered the former Chief Minister Stalin’s DMK, prompting them to exit the ‘India’ alliance.
Despite political differences, the Shiv Sena (UBT) noted that Stalin maintained decorum by wishing the new administration well. They advised him to steer clear of BJP entanglements and urged him not to fall into the traps set by Modi and Shah for the sake of the state and nation.
