Mumbai, March 9: Thousands flock to Mumbai with dreams of shining on the big screen, but only a few carve a niche in Hindi cinema. For aspiring actors, landing a first film is not just a beginning; it’s a key to building a career. However, it’s surprising when an actress expresses regret over her debut film, as was the case with Shilpa Shirodkar.
Shirodkar has openly admitted to regretting her decision to sign her first film. Her debut, “Kishan Kanhaiya,” was released on this very day 36 years ago. She recalls it as if it were yesterday. In the film, she played the role of Radha, a simple girl from a village. The film was a box office success and ranked as the fourth highest-grossing film of 1990, yet it brought negative experiences for her.
One of the songs featured in the film, “Radha Bina Krishna Akela,” had beautiful lyrics and music. However, a particular scene where Shirodkar wore a white, transparent saree under a waterfall drew comparisons to Mandakini from the film “Ram Teri Ganga Maili.” This scene faced significant criticism, leading to early comparisons of Shirodkar with Mandakini. Following the backlash, she expressed her regret over signing the film.
Directed by Rakesh Roshan, this Indian Hindi action-comedy film was released in 1990. Anil Kapoor played a double role, and Madhuri Dixit starred as the lead actress. Interestingly, few know that Amitabh Bachchan was initially offered the film, but due to prior commitments, he declined, paving the way for Kapoor to take on the role.
