Baramati: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar stated that he has no information regarding Sunetra Pawar taking oath as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister. He suggested that the decision must have been made by the party leadership.
Speaking to reporters in Baramati, Sharad Pawar said, “The party must have taken the decision. I believe some leaders like Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare have made such decisions. The party must have decided internally.”
When asked specifically about Sunetra Pawar’s appointment, Sharad Pawar distanced himself from the decision. He added, “The party has to manage her. Leaders like Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare have the authority to make these decisions. I will not comment on their internal choices. Our political paths are different, but the family stands united in difficult times.”
On the topic of family unity, he said, “If any trouble arises within the family, it remains united. There is no problem in the family.”
Asked if any member of the Pawar family would attend the oath-taking ceremony, he replied, “We don’t have any information about the oath-taking. We learned about it through the news. I have no details about the event.”
Regarding the merger of the two NCP factions, Sharad Pawar mentioned that positive talks had taken place between Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil. He claimed the reunion was nearly finalised, with an official announcement by the Deputy CM scheduled for February 12.
Sharad Pawar clarified that he was not directly involved in the talks, which were led by Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil. He said, “It was Ajit Pawar’s wish for both NCP factions to come together, and it was our wish too.”
He further revealed that the sudden demise of Ajit Pawar in a plane crash has put a halt to the merger talks. What happens next depends on the leaders from both sides.
