“I am overwhelmed with the support of the party workers in Maharashtra and other states. I cannot go against the interest of the party workers”, he said while addressing the media on Friday.

Earlier, the MCP committee formed to elect the next party president rejected Sharad Pawar’s resignation unanimously. Pawar’s decision to continue as the party president triggered celebrations across the state.

A large number of party workers had gathered at the NCP office in Ballard Estate in Mumbai demanding Pawar to reconsider his decision. Pawar had announced his decision on Tuesday during a function to release his autobiography ‘Lok Maze Sangati’.
