New Delhi, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi High Court welcomed seven new judges on September 21, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony took place on a Monday, bringing the total number of judges at the court to 50. Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay administered the oath to Justice Nivedita Anil Sharma, Justice Nisha Sahay Saxena, Justice Sanjay Sharma, Justice Bharat Parashar, Justice Aditi Chaudhary, Justice Dinesh Bhatt, and Justice Arun Bhardwaj.
The event was held within the High Court premises and attended by current judges, senior judicial officials, registry members, lawyers, and family members of the newly appointed judges.
All seven judges previously served as judicial officers in the district judiciary of the capital. Justice Sharma and Saxena have been appointed as permanent judges, while Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Dr. Aditi Chaudhary, Dinesh Bhatt, and Arun Bhardwaj have been designated as additional judges. Before his promotion, Arun Bhardwaj worked as the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court.
On September 19, the central government announced these appointments following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium. The Collegium had proposed the names of eight judicial officers for promotion during its meeting on September 10, leading to the appointment of these seven officials.
The sanctioned strength of judges in the High Court is 60, and with these new appointments, the current number has now reached 50.
