Mumbai, March 4 : The equity market continued to slid for the third straight session as the BSE Sensex on Friday tanked 807 points at 54,294.97 in opening session on weak Asian Market. The Nifty too slipped 229 points at 16,268.15. Heavy selling was seen in Bankex, Finance and Consumer Durable stocks etc. The Sensex registered days high and low at 54,653.59 and 54,194.17 pts respectively. The Nifty registered days high and low at 16,364.85 and 16,233.50 points respectively. The Mid Cap eased 1.42 per cent and Small Cap by 0.91 per cent. In 30 scrips, five rose and 25 declined. The losers were Asian Paints by 5.37 per cent to Rs 2717.20, Maruti Suzuki by 3.96 per cent to Rs 7297.15, M& M by 2.87 per cent to Rs 739.90, Hind lever by 2.41 per cent to Rs 2041.25 and Bajaj Finance by 2.56 per cent to Rs 2043.25. The gainers were Tata Steel by 1.03 per cent to Rs 1316.55, ITC by 0.52 per cent to Rs 220.50, NTPC by 0.49 per cent to Rs 132.50, Ultracemco by 0.25 per cent to Rs 5996.70 and Dr Reddy’s Lab by 0.12 per cent to Rs 3724.20.
